“The Reach Of Resonance” At Harvard University

April 27, 2011

Excerpts of “The Reach Of Resonance” are being used in seminars at Harvard University (conducted by composer John Luther Adams and aurora researcher Dirk Lummerzheim) about the relationship between art, science, and creative processes.  The collaboration of Adams and Lummerzheim in translating the earth’s magnetic field measurements into music (in real time) is a beautiful illustration of how art and science can benefit from each other…all of which is explored in “The Reach Of Resonance.”

The following photographs of Reach Of Resonance director Steve Elkins working with Adams and Lummerzheim during production of his film were mostly shot in August 2009 at interior Alaska’s Poker Flat Research Range, where scientists shoot rockets into the sky to study the aurora.
